Stranded pleasure boat
Stranded pleasure boat

Each morning as I have walked with Chonki down the beach I have seen these two pleasure boats with outboard motors anchored a short distance out, with ropes to the shore.  Then last Wednesday(18th), one had broken from its anchor and was beached.  Some guys were trying to move it but I did not wait to see the outcome.
Next morning (Thu), it was in the water semi-submerged, and looked a sorry sight.  I thought of the "dreams" the owner must have had - hours of cruising pleasure.  But I have never seen signs of either boat being used - I wonder where the owners are?  You can imagine the damage bill rising as the salt water has its way.

Friday morning, and it has been dragged out up beach with an added touch of tender loving care - the blue tarpaulin.

John Howard

This is how the ABC reported the latest alert from the Australian Goverment on Sunday 8th.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) is warning of imminent terrorist attacks in Indonesia, possibly in Bali.

Australians are being urged not to travel there with intelligence reports suggesting terrorists are planning attacks against western targets.

The Department warns the attacks could happen at any time and Australians in Indonesia should avoid known targets.

"There have been recent arrests of high level terrorist operatives in Indonesia, but we assess terrorists are continuing active planning of attacks," the Department said in a statement.

"These attacks could take place at any time and could be imminent. Australians should consider this information carefully when considering travel to Indonesia.

DFAT maintains web pages that show their assesment of current risk levels associated with travel to different countries.  For a long time now Inodnesia has been rated at the 4th level (reconsider your need to travel) on a scale of 5.  Now they mention intelligence reports suggesting terrorists are planning attacks but they have not changed this rating.  So are the intelligence reports the same old ones they used when setting level 4 some time ago, or what?.

With an election looming late this year, you can't help but wonder if there is a political dimension here.

Rooster
Rooster
I am reminded of an old rooster joke that is on the web-site poultryhelp.com/chickenjokes.html - here they have it as:

The old rooster was teaching the newbie one day telling him "You need to chase me around the farmyard 4 times. If you can catch me in that time, you get to take over the flock with no complaints from me.  However. if I get away I get to use you as a hen.  One, Two, Three, GO.   And off he ran.   The farmer, who sitting on the front porch witnessed the first run, then the second run, then got up and got his shotgun.  On the third run, he blasted the young rooster.  Under his breath he said "That was the 4th gay rooster this month!!!!"

So - is John Howard the wiley old rooster trying to trick Kevin the newbie into responding in a way that could bring him down?  What do you think?

Monkey with Banana
Monkey with Banana

On the road from Bedugul to Singaraja you first pass Lake Bratan where there is a Hindu temple on the shore.  The road crosses from one lake to the other (Lake Buyan), then it suddenly climbs up Mount Catur which is part of the volcanic ring.  Part way up you find a colony of monkeys.  You can buy bananas to feed to them, and they watch keenly, can catch thrown food, and then eat.
