We started on Mon Feb 20.

After seeking feedback from both families and friends, and agonising over all the issues raised, we finally jumped.

Plan of the Buka house
Plan of the Buka house
To give an idea of wwhere we are heading, here is an architect planof the "Buka" house we have tentatively selected.  You can see 3 bedrooms at the back.  Two of these have "garden bathrooms" with no roof.  The living area has downstairs and an upstairs section under the tall grass roof.  The pool is 18x6 m and doubles as a water feature with water cascading into it and then over the edges.

Our block at Temukus

And here is a view of the block (where the white truck is) in January after a storm that dumped rubbish on the beach.  You can see coconut palms that hopefully we can keep, and where some Balinese are currently living.  The deal that the developers offer the Balinese is new houses on non-beachfront land to which they get title.  They currently do not have any land title but are what we would call squatters.  When we returned in February the beach was cleaner, a low front fence was built, as well as all side fences.  In the background you can almost make out the hills which are partly shrouded by cloud.

Here is a Google Earth view  as if you are high up north of Bali looking south.  It shows my best guess of the the location of the block.  You can see the mainroad is a about 1 Km back from the beach here, then you see the hills, and in the distanceyou can see the southern peninsular of Bali where the airport and Nusa Dua are located.
