Into the Wild - poster | Into the Wild (2007)Initially I thought the central character, Chris McCandless (Emile Hirsch) was selfish, and unrealistic. But as this long (2.5 hr) movie progresses, the picture of his disconnect with his parents, his rejection of career goals and personal relationships takes shape and I became more engaged. | After graduating, he drops out, breaks contact with his family, discards his posessions, and as a tramp makes a rounda-about trip from Atlanta to Alaska via the Colorado River and Mexico.
| Into the Wild - Colorado River rapids | Into the Wild - sharing music | He meets some interesting people, gets fairly close, then breaks away again for his solo goal of Alaska. Here we see a young singer he helps. These encounters shed light on his own demons and decisions. As this is based on a true story there is no option for a Hollywood or happy ending.
