Alas Purwo Welcome Message | Alas Purwo National ParkBlambangan Peninsular at the south east corner of Java is where the Alas Purwo National Park is located. Alas means forest or jungle and purwo is the beginning of everything. The map on the sign shows the way to get to Plengkung is on foot - but this sign is probably pre-2002 which was when a road was built. The ranger told us that the road is now washed away 1 Km before Plengkung so you still must walk that last bit | This Google Earth image gives an idea of topography. I have marked as "Entrance" the checkpoint where you pay to enter the National Park, and also the "checkpoint" (at Pancur) where they want a second fee before you go down that road - so we have not done it yet - but will on the next trip
| Google Earth View of Alas Purwo | Pantai Trianggulasi | The beach at Trianggulasi was a bit untidy when we were there (February) because rough weather had been washing branches and rubbish ashore, There is simple cheap accommodation here and a colony of monkeys. It is close to Sadengan which is a good spot for watching the animals from an observation tower. The beach curves around to the right in the distance and Plengkung (G-land) is right at the end. | Plenghung is promoted in the surfing world as G-land, and has two up-market surf camps called Bobbies and Joyos. G-land has truly one of the worlds great waves, perfect mechanical barrelling waves, not a drop of water out of place - makes your mouth dry just thinking about it. The surf camps provide packages with transport and full accommodation - but they are expensive. The season is March until November.
